Southern Craft Dental Lab Achieves Highest Industry Standards
DAMAS Third-Party Accreditation Conferred
GAINESVILLE, GA (June 2009) – Southern Craft Dental Lab, Gainesville, GA, a Certified Dental Lab, has been further certified as meeting the rigorous standards of excellence set forth by DAMAS, an international dental industry accreditation entity administered by the National Association of Dental Laboratories (NADL).
DAMAS, an acronym for Dental Appliance Manufacturers Audit Scheme, is a quality certification based on ISO requirements, but with the distinction that it is designed specifically for dental laboratories. DAMAS is the highest dental-industry-specific certification a dental lab can achieve throughout the world.
“We’re very pleased to be recognized as meeting the high standards of the world’s most stringent dental-lab-specific accreditation system,” said Jeb Bates, president and CEO of Southern Craft. “It typically takes about 600 man-hours for a lab to document satisfaction of the standards DAMAS requires.”
“Southern Craft is in a very elite group of dental labs within the United States that have integrated DAMAS requirements into their operating standards,” said DAMAS Co-Executive Director, Bennett Napier. “For perspective, out of 14,000 dental laboratories in the United States, only about 30 have currently been DAMAS-accredited, which translates to two one-hundredths of one percent.”
As the final step in DAMAS accreditation, Southern Craft submitted to a third-party audit of its operations as verification of meeting DAMAS standards. The lab has long been a Certified Dental Lab (CDL), a status awarded by the National Board for Certification of Dental Laboratories. Southern Craft is a leading proponent of regulatory control over dental appliance quality in materials and production.
